Being told that you're going to be performing at the BBC Electric Proms is not something that sinks in overnight. From the moment I was asked, I felt like the biggest opportunity in my life so far had just fallen in to my hands.
But I have to admit, it was also partially terrifying! In all my life, I have never actually stood on stage singing to an audience (apart from when I was very young, but that's another story). So all of a sudden it was up to me to transfer my love of music in the comfort of my own bedroom with a little mic, to a stage that would be exposed to thousands across the UK and all over the world.
The rehearsals were a whole new experience in themselves. I feel that working with such talented musicians enabled me to learn a bit more about the art of the music from everybody. Efficient team work became so essential under such a tight schedule!
It was so much fun to see each song progress to amazing performance material during the rehearsals. I had every faith that Saturday night was destined to be a huge success, especially after watching others rehearse and feeling so much energy from their songs.
The BBC Electric Proms are wired for the most exciting sounds of the year, from frontrunners of Britpop and forefathers of punk through to definitive modern music phenomena, and back again – spliced together over a series of unrepeatable performances at London's legendary Roundhouse.
Saturday 28th October Venue: FREEDM Studio, Roundhouse, Camden, London Time: Doors open at 22.00, performance starts 22.30
Punjabi brothers Tigerstyle showcase their unique take on contemporary music which ranges from Hip Hop to Drum & Bass and Dance, with the full backing of a string quartet. In addition, the night will feature individual and collaborative performances from London-based composer and producer Niraj Chag, and the Bombay Dub Orchestra (producer Garry Hughes and string arranger/composer Andrew T. Mackay). Former Stone Roses guitarist Aziz will also appear to complete the line up for a truly unique evening.
