THE SUICIDE SQUAD – THE BEST PRESS CONFERENCE BY FAR
Guardians of the Galaxy had its crazy team of Peter Quill/Star Lord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket, Mantis and Groot. But director James Gunn gave them a bit more to their characters that isn’t seen in many superhero films. So it’s only right that he does the same for DC with The Suicide Squad. At a press conference, the cast and crew came together to talk about the film and their experiences whilst filming.
After Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey, Margot Robbie’s comes back for the third time as ex-psychiatrist Harley Quinn and she is incredibly excited to see what the film will have to offer her belied character. “I loved getting to play Harley, who was in the mindset of like single and ready to mingle. Um, she, I hadn’t played that version of Harley before. She’s always been very committed to Mr. Jay or just fresh out of a breakup with Mr. Jay and James put in a lot of very funny potential love interests throughout the, throughout the film,” she expressed.
The multi-talented Sylvester Stallone who voices King Shark instantly jumped at the chance to play the big shark who only wants to fit in. Even though he’s not physically in the film, he said, “I’m a big fan of seafood so I was offered this and thought oh well, how do I pass it. I would have preferred to play a grouper but I’ll take what I can get,” said Stallone.
John Cena and Idris Elba definitely had a blast working together and exploring the relationship between their characters, Peacemaker and Bloodsport.
Elba said, “When you read the script, you see the natural rivalry between John and I and James and who team really just gravitated to this dick swinging competition that was just a lot of fun. For us, it was really great fun and James would really egg us on to make Peacemaker and Bloodsport really pop on screen. I loved every minute of it.”
Cena said, ““I’d say the same, I think if you look at the personalities you have here, James has cast a very wide net and on top of that given everyone’s superhero personalities that are distinctly definable except Bloodsport and Peacemaker, they are on the same skill set and I think that really starts to fuel the one-upmanship, they really want to battle for that Alpha position, whereas the other heroes don’t need to compete as much because they have definable characteristics. It really does make for some good comedic moments.”
The film stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Peter Capaldi. It’s definitely the film of the summer and will keep you on the edge of your seats from start to finish.
The Suicide Squad is out in UK cinemas on 30th July 2021
