The State Of The British Bhangra Scene By Tony Pabla.
Ok I was asked for my thoughts on the state of the UK Bhangra music scene by Envy Music.
So let’s start where it became poplar. This was the early 80s.This is where the gig scene started, Bands like Alaap, DCS, Apna Sangeet, Pardesi, Azaad, Heera & Premi to name a few were some of the biggest bands out In the mid 80’s. AS Kang was the exception as he was the only solo singer out there.
They dominated the Bhangra scene. The mid 80’s then brought around acts like Golden Star, Safri Boys Shaktee.Back in these days the bands were all live & had a massive present on stage. The gig scene was slowly moving out of function halls & into clubs. For the Asian community this was a major step forward.
THE BILZ (DJ Vicious & Master-D feat Kashif),Montreal's International Urban producers have officially inked their major debut.
The most anticipated album of the year is finally here. It includes 12 smashing tracks such as the hit single 2 Step Bhangra by So-D ft. Kashif , O Meri Rani (Spanish Fly) by Kashif ft. Drega and the hit sequel, Punjabi Whisper pt.2 by Mixsingh.
After almost two years of delays, the album is finally out, and the reason for the delay? Well, apparently its been down to the effects of 2 much glassy itself, but I’m sure there’s more a simple reason to it, like Mr Hayer being busy with plenty more other projects. The first release from Leamington Spa based GENIE Records, 2006 has been a quiet year for the guys, who after the massive success of Groundshaker have been awfully quiet.
