From the last one week all Amit can think about is singing. That’s all he sees ahead of him.
For this 12 year old sixth grader, suddenly things have changed course, all since his teacher registered him for the Mirchi Tansen Junior singing hunt.
His excitement level, has reached sky high after he qualified as one of the top 6 for the city-level round in Surat, Gujarat.
A talent hunt aiming at showcasing the best amongst 8 to 12 year olds, Mirchi Tansen Junior is happening all across Gujarat this year spreading some good vibes, music and yes healthy competition across the airwaves of and also, on ground.
In its second week, MTJ has auditioned near a 1000 children in this age group.
Contestants have traveled from neighboring cities across the state to take part in the four qualifying cities where the rounds are being staged.
Judged and mentored by top names in the music fraternity; several major musicians have stepped in to show their support for these young Tansen city finalists.
Leading the pack and lending voices of support are industry giants like Pandit Aniket Khandekar, Atul Purohit, Hemant Chauhan, Nidhi Dhodakiya, Sairam Dave, Somnath Mitra, Dhruv and Mayank Kapadia amongst a few.
So with the leading jocks of the Gujarat Radio Mirchi network driving MTJ, the dream to find the young musical Tansen voice of tomorrow lives on.
All four city jocks together with respective mentors will train and work with the selected candidates and then compete on a grand scale for the Gujarat finale.
The grand Gujarat finale is expected to be held in early August.
Heading the activity from Ahmedabad is Gujarat’s No 1 radio jockey, Dhvanit. The award winning jock is known for reaching out to millions and being a major supporter of talent.
His ability to reach out to listeners and continously maintain a place in the hearts of so many, remains unparalleled. His top candidates are- Dhruti, Riddhi, Tathya, Taksh, Yashvi and Jiya.
Baroda’s Anushka, Vilomi, Antara, Gopal, Ritansh and Jainum are headed by the musically inclined RJ Kshitij.

MTJ originally kickstarted in Baroda over three years back with Kshitij’s dream to find that golden voice and do a fun activity for children across the monsoon. This year that dream reaches out to several more.
Handling the activity from the city of Rajkot is the versatile Rj Ishita.
Young, bubbly and bringing life to the airwaves of Rajkot, Ishita is all set to find that bright spark in her city.
Her top contestants are- – Akshipthika, Ekta, Kashish, Kajal, Kavya and Harshit.
Spearheading the activity from Surat is the man who can only be described as the voice of the city.
Rahil has for the last 5 years has wooed listeners with his youth related activities, becoming the youth icon of the city of Surat. Rahil’s line up includes Pathey, Riya, Sarthak, Neha, Anouska and Amit.
So as Amit belts out another high note on Mein Tenu Samjhawan with mentor Mayank Kapadia and singing guru Somnath Mitra at practice sessions, the audience claps in amazement.
Mayank Kapadia adds, ‘Amit has a great grasp over music and a far better understanding.’
Rahil feels that although Amit is visually impaired, that doesn’t stop him one bit. ‘He is highly visioned and has a sure shot, just like all these children at singing the house down!’
