Kapoor & Sons – Since 1921 released on 18th March 2016 through Fox Star Studios.
Kapoor & Sons – Since 1921, revolves around the relationship between two brothers, Rahul and Arjun, who have returned home to Coonoor, to spend time with their grandfather – in what they think will be his last days. Rahul (Fawad Khan) is a smart, successful and handsome young man while Arjun (Sidharth Malhotra) is an aspiring writer, struggling to make ends meet. They aren’t exactly the ‘inseparable’ brother material and the awkwardness between them is quite obvious. Their arrival in India instantly unfolds their individual relations with their parents. While Rahul is loved by everyone, Arjun seems like the neglected son who according to the family is too immature and irresponsible to make decisions. The brothers find themselves in the middle of a conundrum – their perfect family has changed, their parents no longer sleep in the same room, and their family are also experiencing financial difficulties. Caught between the dynamic drama, Arjun leaves with an old friend to ease his mind. Then one night Arjun meets Tia (Alia Bhatt), a flamboyant, young woman who he instantly strikes a chord with. In due course, Tia also meets Rahul, who also falls for her charms. This is where the awkwardness between the brothers turns to tension – a love triangle.
As the story unfolds, we realise that all the characters have made their fair share of mistakes and bad decisions. The family members who seem perfect aren’t necessarily so, and the ones who seem imperfect have good reasons for their actions. Are the brothers able to bring normalcy back into their home? Are they able to resolve their own issues? What happens to the Tia-Arjun-Rahul trio? Is the grandfather able to get the perfect ‘family photo’ he’s been striving for? The answer to all these questions and many more forms the crux of Kapoor & Sons Since 1921.
