DCS The Band

DCS – BIOGRAPHY/ HISTORY

They also play a major part in creating trends and being a role model for up and coming bands. They were the first band to utilise the modern creative sounds of the synthesizers in the production of the late 80’s bhangra. This influenced all the bhangra bands in the competitive market to change their style of music.
The entrepreneurial strategies of DCS have become the main trend to follow.
In the 90’s, DCS followed the demands of public research and began adding the traditional bhangra patterns, those commonly found in the music of renowned artists such as Kuldip Manak, Gurdas Maan and K.Deep and Jagmohan Kaur. Modern music with the influence of the traditional Dhol and Tumbi
embraced a real rich aroma of Punjab leading their success further to achieve Platinum and Gold disk sales. (According to Bhangra labels).
Yet in the age of mix and match, DCS manage to endeavour originality.
Because of this DCS have earned their respect in the bhangra industry and hace attracted a global following that has been reflected in the outcome of tours worldwide.
For the last seven years DCS have scooped the award for ‘Best Live Band’ at all the major award presentations.
DCS - The Band
DCS cater for all generations and have produces albums in Punjabi, Hindi and English that have gained world recognition and international airplay. The success of the band is an ongoing saga as they stand to proved yet again with their latest release ‘Desi Culture Shock’ that DCS’s production, creativity, innovation and talent are still forces to be reckoned with.

PROFILE – SHIN

The ‘S’ of DCS and the only remaining founder member, Shin was interested in music from a young age.
He bought his first harmonium at the age of twelve and started to take singing lessons and as he says he is still learning today. In July 1981 he wanted to enter a Mohd Rafi competition and contacted two local musicians that were recommended to him, ‘Mr D’ and ‘Mr C’. it was the first time Shin had ever sung at a proper show in front of an audience and he loved every second of it. In that competition he came second and the seeds of DCS were planted that day.
Shin feels that he has so much more music to experiment with and so much more music to learn and will be doing so all the way in to his next life and beyond.
Influences: The voices of people like Mohd Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Jamla Jatt, Chamkila and Surinder Kaur. The music of composers like Shankar Jaikishan, O.P. Nayyar, S.D. Burman & Laxmikant Pyarelal, as well as many western influences.
Hobbies: Shin likes to keep fit (at all times), watching films (English & Indian), reading, eating all kinds of food, travelling and listening to music from all parts of the world.

ABOUT THE BAND.

DCS is the number one band in the UK, and probably the best live Bhangra band in the world. Their live shows are a talking point for all; shear energy and an ‘in your face’ performance is the mark of their brand of British Bhangra. They believe that their sound represents the identity of the British Asian, and they are proud to fly that flag all over the world.
