BritAsia Superstar - The Judges

BritAsia Superstar – The Judges

The Quarter-finals are over and with the Semi-finals drawing close, our judges have a tough task ahead of them; as the contestants are filtered down, the quality is on the rise! So who exactly are the judges?
We have lined up 4 very influential figures of the music industry to make the all-important decisions!
HARJ D (XS BASS)
Harj D is founder and sole owner of XS-BASS. A self-confessed lover and fan of music, he has dedicated many years to the music scene. Harj emerged with ‘XS-BASS DJs’ in 1997. Now, in 2010, following a very successful DJ career, a number of successful releases and tours, Harj is a strong supporter of promoting raw talent, leading him on his journey to Brit Asia Superstar. The show has given hundreds of contestants the chance to be heard, something Harj hopes will build the industry he loves, and provide it with a much needed boost.
SHIN (DCS)
His fascination with singing began whilst still at primary school and his wide and diverse influences, when thrown into the mix, have helped Shin to create his distinct style of vocal delivery and music production in the Bhangra industry, which have become the trade mark sound of DCS: the Bhangra band that Shin is a founder member of. Shin and DCS have received numerous awards and accolades for their achievements in Bhangra music. They have a fan base which stretches the globe and have toured all major countries around the world and, even today, enjoy the status of being the number one live band in the UK. With songs recorded in Punjabi, Hindi and English, Shin is considered to be the most versatile singer in the UK Asian music scene.
SHAHIN BADAR
Award-winning songstress Shahin Badar has, without a doubt, emerged as one of the most accomplished crossover female Asian vocalists in the burgeoning UK and Asian music scene. Her innovative musical collaborations have seen her team up with respected producers such as ‘A.R Rahman’ and acts like the electronic big beat giants ‘The Prodigy’. Shahin’s written and vocal projects contribute to over 30 soundtracks including Hollywood blockbusters "Closer" and "Charlie's Angel's", various US sitcoms and the background score of Shyam Bengal’s Bollywood spectacular "Zubeidaa". A consummate, professional role model and inspiration to many young people, Shahin’s work has been consistently covered by mainstream mediums all around the world.
APACHE INDIAN
Apache Indian is responsible for the original creation of what was a new hybrid sound of ‘Bhangra Raggamuffin’; fusing Bhangra music with Reggae. He recorded his first single, "Movie Over India", in 1990 and by 1992 he signed a recording contract with Island Records, releasing his debut album ‘No Reservations’ the following year. Today, Apache Indian has recorded with Boyz II Men, Blackstreet, UB40, Sean Paul, Maxi Priest, Shaggy, A. R. Rahman, Asha Bhosle and Pras of the Fugees, Malkit Singh, Jazzy B, Sunidhi Chauhan, Alisha Chinai and the list goes on.
