BBC ASIAN NETWORK SHOWCASES BIG COMEDY

From Monday (March 10), the BBC Red Button will be broadcasting the BBC Asian Network’s Big Comedy Night.

The event, hosted by BBC Asian Network’s Tommy Sandhu (6am-10am), showcases the best of Asian comedy in the UK and beyond in special week of programming.

 

Recorded in front of a live audience at the BBC’s Radio Theatre in London last month, BBC Asian Network’s Big Comedy Night saw performances by some of the biggest Asian comedy talent around –  including performances from viral internet sensation II Superwoman II, impressionist Anil Desai, the ‘master of twerking’ Mawaan Rizwaan, and one of India’s leading stand-up comedians Aditi Mittal.

The programme will also feature performances by home-grown rising star Abdullah Afzal (Amjad in Citizen Khan) who made his stand-up debut and critically-acclaimed Romesh Ranganathan.

Mark Strippel, Head of Programmes for the Asian Network, said:

 

“BBC Asian Network has developed a genuine platform for progressive British-Asian and South-Asian comic talents in recent years and this Red Button special, filmed at the BBC Radio Theater, shines a spotlight on some of our rising stars.”

 

The event also features live music from British-Asian star Navin Kundra and teenage singer and songwriter Iman Orths.

Highlights of all the performances will be available on the BBC Red Button from 10pm on Monday 10 March to Saturday 15 March.
