THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT REVIEW

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is the latest instalment of The Conjuring franchise and sees the return of the paranormal duo, Ed and Lorraine Warren. We all like a good scare and what makes a horror film even more thrilling is when it is based on true events. Directed by Micheal Chaves and starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as the we follow them as they investigate a case so strange and so frightening that tests their relationship and keeps you guessing from start to finish.

We are in the 1980s, where and we see the Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) completing an exorcism of a young 8 year old boy, David Glatzel. Attended by his family and his sister’s boyfriend, Arne Johnson (Ruari O’Connor) who invites the demon into his body. A month later, Arne is accused of the murder of his landlord, Bruno Sauls, by stabbing him 22 times. But Johnson claims he was influenced by the Devil…

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is unique from its predecessors and sees the storytelling of Arne Johnson in a way that director Michael Chaves, leaves us to wonder and feel sceptical about his innocence. But O’Connor’s depiction of being possessed is frightening and leaves you grabbing a pillow even the Devil does take over. What is interesting about this film though, that we haven’t seen in the previous two is how the story affects Ed and Lorraine’s relationship. Their relationship have never been explored before but intertwining in with the Arne Johnson story gives it the right amount of chills that we all know from a horror film.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is a watch that will definitely leave a question mark above your head – but that is the beauty of it. It makes us wonder the whats and hows and whether even the paranormal is even real. We all have read stories of people experiencing paranormal activity, but never once have we actually witnessed someone being possessed. That’s what makes this story of The Conjuring so good and scary that will make you want to watch it.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is out in UK cinemas on 26th May 2021
