TACKLING DIABETES IN THE UK: “Bodycraft Weight-Loss Surgery” on the risks attached Diabesity

FACTS: 
·         Around 70 – 75,000 diabetic patients die every year in the UK for which 24, 000 deaths from diabetes could be avoided
·         Risk is far greater amongst younger age groups: women between 15 – 34 yrs with diabetes were 9 times more likely to die than other women of the same age
·         About 1/3 of UK people affected do not realise they have Diabetes which could lead to fatal complications like heart and kidney failure
·         With Type 1 diabetes patients, the risk of dying is 2.6 times higher. With Type 2, the risk was 1.6 times higher
·         The dramatic increase in obesity-related Type 2 diabetes is one of the most serious global health problems
·         By 2030 there will be 26 million people in the UK who are obese
·         Obesity costs the NHS £4.3 billion a year
