Sunday 21st May – Homegrown Hits The Road with Ras Kwame

On Sunday 21st May, Ras Kwame kicks off 'Homegrown Hits The Road', a
week of broadcasts celebrating the UK's vibrant black music scene.

Ras Kwame comes live from South Birmingham College and will showcase
artists such as (desi artists) Sangra Vibes, PJD and Notorious J.A.T.T.,
a 25 strong gospel choir headed up by Angela Baxi. Also UK hip hop acts
such as C.O.V., Devilman, Alex Blood, Blaq-I and Moorish Delta, also RnB
artists such as Family Affair and Adante, the mercury-nominated Soweto
Kinch and many more all from the midlands area.

During the show, South Birmingham College students (aged 17-21) will
also be behind the scenes, stage managing the show as part of their
music course.

Today's show will see Ras Kwame hand over the 'Homegrown' reigns to
1Xtra's afternoon presenters Ace & Invisible who will take the Homegrown
concept take to the road. Ace & Invisible will broadcast live from
1Xtra's 'Homegrown Live' tour bus from different cities such as
Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool and Cardiff from the top of the
country and down from Monday 22nd – Friday 26th May. Ace & Invisible
will be visiting each city meeting the local artists, sampling the local
scene and collecting music along the way.

This will culminate in with a 24 hour broadcast from 6am-6am on Bank
Holiday Monday 29th May with 'Around our world in 18 tracks' a musical
round-up of Ace & Invisible's 5 city road trip, and more Homegrown
treats such as the UK Takeover hip hop event from Nottingham. The
Homegrown Holiday 24 hour special will feature some of the best of the
UK's black music scene featuring artists such as Terri Walker, Lethal
Bizzle, Dizzee Rascal, Kano Ms Dynamite, Estelle Sway and more, all
taking part in special edition shows exclusively for 1Xtra
