SONALI BENDRE IS BACK IN THE BROKEN NEWS

Newsroom and courtroom dramas have always been exciting on the big and the small screen. And ZEE5’s latest offering The Broken News straddles between two newsrooms and perpetually between the right and wrong.

The drama is set between two news channels – Awaz Bharti and Josh 24*7. Awaz Bharti shares the news as it is, but  Josh 24*7 believes in spicing the truth up a little. Amina Qureshi (played by Sonali Bendre) heads Awaz Bharti and has a straightforward personality but Jaideep Ahlawat as Dipankar Sanyal heads Josh 24*7 is more power-hungry. From the very beginning, you see their opposing views.

The director and writers go for a predictable route as we are shown how two different news channels, their style and how two different editors process and select news pieces. By then, you already know that Jaideep is the more brash journalist/businessmen of the two.  

The fight of ethical journalism is the main part of the narrative as the journalists wrestle between crossing the line and chasing the facts. Jaideep Ahlawat  is impressive and will amaze you with his acting. However, the surprise package is Sonali Bendre who is the fierce news editor and is cast perfectly.

It’s a good watch and Sonali Bendre is back.
