National Thali Week 2026

Returns 6th-12th January 2026

National Thali Week showcases the colourful and flavourful thali – a platter that brings together a variety of dishes, representing the heart of South Asian cuisine. This year, the Pukaar Group invites restaurants across the UK to join in the festivities by creating and sharing their own unique thali offerings.

Launched in 2024 by multi award-winning journalist Romail Gulzar in England’s Curry Capital, Leicester, this vibrant celebration honours the rich and diverse culinary traditions of the South Asian subcontinent.

How Restaurants Can Get Involved:

Restaurants are encouraged to participate in National Thali Week by:

  • Designing a special thali menu featuring a variety of traditional or contemporary South Asian dishes.
  • Offering exclusive National Thali Week promotions or discounts to attract customers.
  • Hosting themed events or tasting sessions to celebrate the diversity of the thali.
  • Sharing photos and stories of their thali creations on social media using the hashtag #NationalThaliWeek and tagging National Thali Week’s official accounts.
  • Collaborating with local communities or food bloggers to raise awareness and celebrate South Asian culinary heritage.

Fundraising for Local Charities:

Restaurants can use National Thali Week as an opportunity to give back by fundraising for local charities. This might include donating a portion of thali sales, hosting charity dinners, or encouraging customers to contribute to a cause while enjoying their meal.

By participating, restaurants can showcase their culinary skills, attract new customers, support their communities, and be part of a nationwide celebration that highlights the rich flavours and cultural significance of the thali.

Members of the public are also encouraged to take part from the comfort of their own homes. Simply prepare your own thali, snap a picture, and share it on social media, tagging National Thali Week to join this nationwide celebration.

Romail Gulzar, founder of National Thali Week, said:

“The thali is more than just a meal – it is a celebration of culture, community, and the incredible diversity of South Asian cuisine. I’m thrilled to see National Thali Week grow across the UK, bringing people together through food and shared experience. Whether in restaurants or at home, I encourage everyone to take part and enjoy this beautiful tradition.”

The Pukaar Group is excited to continue National Thali Week and celebrate the incredible flavours and cultural heritage of the South Asian subcontinent. Whether you’re a restaurateur or a home cook, this is a wonderful opportunity to come together and enjoy the beautiful diversity of thali.
