Mona Singh

At a time when the vast majority of releases are struggling, the sales of ‘Stronger’ have been exceptional proving that Mona truly is the Princess of Bhangra.
Not everyone knows that Mona is the daughter of Channi Singh – the lead singer of the legendary band Alaap. Of course Alaap are credited with the title “Pioneers of Bhangra” and need no introduction. They are considered to be the best Bhangra band ever.
Having Channi as your father has both advantages and disadvantages and Mona has experienced both. “I am born with music and creativity in my genes and both my parents are responsible for that” says Mona… “At the same time the expectations placed upon me are far higher than my counterparts. I have had to work extremely hard to create my identity within the industry and I work even harder to maintain it”.

Mona's new management company ‘AP Entertainment’ are now responsible for her diary which is already busy with dates for 2009. “We have 22 events already in the diary” says Amjad, head of AP Entertainment; “That too across the globe including Europe, USA, India, Dubai and Pakistan”. Mona's success on the live circuit has to be attributed partly to the fact that she performs with a full live band and that is a testament to her dedication.
Where the majority of female Bhangra acts mime to CDs, Mona is far more comfortable performing live with her band.  So what else is in the pipeline for Mona this year? Well she has recorded a number of tracks for films such as ‘Mr Bhatti on Chutti’ starring Amitabh Bachchan and Anupam Kher, an English film titled ‘A Distant Mirage’ and a Punjabi movie called ‘Apna Desh’. “On top of that, there are a number of projects that have been recorded for Bollywood but we cannot discuss details at present” explains Amjad. “It’s an exciting time for all of us and we are all looking forward to the releases”.

There is also other media interest in the “Princess” and offers on the table. Some important decisions still need to be made by her management company.
No matter what happens, one thing is for sure – the year 2009 will elevate Mona's status as the most accomplished female vocalist in the UK.
