Midlands Based Sikhs nominated for Sikh Awards 2014

World Sikh Awards Panel of Independent Judges has short-listed top 3 candidates in the following categories
Business Man, Business Women,Charity,Education,Entertainment,Entrepreneur,Media,Profession,Seva, and Sports.

They have released the list this week. ZEE TV will be showing these awards WORLDWIDE via ZEE network.

Previous years winners include Prime Minister David Cameron, Prof Harminder Singh Dua (who discovered a new layer in human eye, now officially known as the ‘Dua Layer’) Jathedar Sant Baba Nihal Singh Ji, Lakshmi Mittal (world steel magnate), Harbhajan Singh (Indian Cricket Team), Cancer Research UK, MP Paul Uppal, Dr Inderjit Kaur (Pinglawara, Amritsar), Olympian Avtar Singh Sohal and many world level business men/women, international charity workers, sports, media and many more.

Our focus this week is our Midlands based Sikhs in the categories of Business Man , Entrepreneur and Charity

Kulvinder Singh is a true visionary. He follows the teachings of his faith and elders which is ‘work, worship and charity’. In 1991 he came to Britain from Kuwait during the invasion by Iraq in 1990 and settled in Manchester. A few years later he moved to Leicester and in 1995 joined the family business Anand International. Anand Internationals turnover is now £35 million a year. As a successful businessman running various businesses he takes pride in giving back to the community. He has or still sits on boards of various organisations and he is currently in the process of setting up JivanCare.org for flood hit areas of India and Pakistan.

February 2003 saw Sukhi become Founder of Octavian Security, after seeing a niche in the market, and now Group CEO for the Octavian Group, currently comprising of companies within the UK, USA and South Africa. Octavian was named Britain’s 27th fastest growing private company in the Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track League Table. In 2011, he became the first non-USA citizen to join the HSFA Board of Directors and served as Chairman in 2012. Sukhi is currently a member of the Nottingham Trent University Development Board, International Ambassador for the City of Nottingham, columnist for Asian World and a member of the British Indian Business Forum.

Giani Sukha Singh is a national figure who has dedicated his life to Seva. He has founded two voluntary organisations, the Sikh Naujawan Academy and the Sikh Helpline. The SNA have run free nationwide gurmat-camps for 21-years, providing educational activities to thousands of youths, encouraging good Sikhi-lifestyles, morals and values. SHL, established 18 years ago, provides a free 24 hour national helpline, offering advice, support and guidance. He also completed a national bike ride of 500 miles for charity. Giani Ji was recently approached by the UK Home Office to act as their Sikh representative.
