Lloyds Banking Group Niche Markets Director receives Honorary Doctorate

MIDLANDS ASIAN BUSINESSES GET SET FOR TOP HONOURS AT LLOYDS TSB JEWEL AWARDS

Now in its seventh year, the Awards will once again celebrate the achievements of the most talented individuals within the public and private sectors, reinforcing the Midlands reputation as a hotbed of Asian talent.  In addition, this year the evening will also acknowledge the challenges currently facing organisations and encourage discussion on how businesses can survive the current economic downturn. Lloyds TSB representatives will be on hand to offer strategic advice to SMEs, corporates and individual entrepreneurs to ensure that they are best placed to survive and thrive during these uncertain times.
Judges of the Lloyds TSB Jewel Awards, including business entrepreneur and star of Dragon’s Den James Caan, said this year’s nominees include some of the most impressive and inspiring individuals in the event’s seven-year history. Hundreds of entries have been received and the final shortlist of nominees will be unveiled shortly.
In speaking about the event, Kamel Hothi, Asian Markets Director, Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets, says: For over half a century, the Asian community in Britain has been making a huge contribution to all aspects of life, not least the economy. Through our sponsorship of the Jewel Awards, we want to recognise the many achievements that make the community a source of inspiration to us all. “There are many Asian businesses in the UK that are surviving the current global crisis and much of their success is due to their cultural and community values and networks, which have supported them throughout. We want to ensure that businesses are best positioned during this time and beyond, and the Jewel Awards are an ideal setting for us to support and share advice on how businesses can get the best out of the current situation.”
Khalid Darr, Chairman of Carter Andersen (CA), organisers of the Lloyds TSB Jewel Awards, says: “Asian men and women are truly breaking new ground in their professional careers and adding real value to the UK economy. This is what these awards set out to recognise.” Lloyds TSB’s support of the Jewel Awards is just one aspect of the bank’s commitment to serving the UK’s Asian population and demonstrates its wider role of providing a level of support that only comes through a deep understanding of its customers.
A further example of Lloyds TSB supporting the business community is confirmed by the pledges it has made in its charter for small businesses and the bank’s commitment to lend to firms through a range of government schemes.
