‘MAJOR’ REVIEW

When we think of the Indian army, we think of sacrifice, strength and valour. In Sashi Kiran Tikka’s Major, we see all these things plus more. One man’s determination to fight for his country and make his country proud.

The story centres around Sandeep Unnikrishnan (Adivi Sesh) who has always felt protective. He feels fear but he doesn’t think twice before putting himself in harm’s way if it means saving someone’s life. As a little boy, he finds himself fascinated with the soldier ‘uniform’ and the way of life. But what does being a soldier mean? The film explores this questions and delves into how Sandeep understands the significance.

With Major, you know how the 26/11 terrorism attack in Mumbai will play out and you also know that Sandeep will end up a martyr. But writers Shashi Kiran Tikka and Adivi Sesh, who wrote the story and screenplay, focuses on Sandeep the human rather than just Sandeep the martyr; which is beautiful has you see his life journey and how he becomes a soldier.

Adivi Sesh has received a role of a lifetime and he grabs it with both hands. He does a good job of playing both a naïve teenager to a confident man who knows what he wants from life and is willing to fight for it, even if circumstances don’t always allow it.

Major is a heart-warming story about a soldier’s life with drama, action and everything you expect from these types of films. And it works.
