Real Life Mirrors Reel Life For Ali Zafar and Aditi Rao Hydari on The Sets of ‘London Paris New York

‘London Paris New York’ This Year’s International Love Story

This Spring, young love will blossom across the globe, in the new Twentieth Century Fox and Rose Productions’ film ‘London Paris New York’, releasing in cinemas on 2nd March 2012.

Starring Bollywood’s latest crush and singing sensation Ali Zafar (Tere Bin Laden, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan) and actress Aditi Rao Hydari (Yeh Sali Zindagi, Rockstar), ‘London Paris New York’ tells the quirky tale of two star-crossed, twenty-somethings, who find themselves drawn to each other in the most unlikely of circumstances, amidst the exciting backdrop of three of the world’s most vibrant cities – London, Paris and New York.

A coming-of-age comedy designed to appeal to the youth, ‘London Paris New York’ speaks their language, reflects their aspirations and the angst and joys of falling in love. London Paris New York’ marks the writing and directorial debut of Anu Menon, a former student at the London Film School. The film throughout intersperses the significance of the number three, as it follows the journey of love between ‘Nikhil’ (Ali Zafar) and ‘Lalitha’ (Aditi Rao Hydari) who meet for a night in three cities, London, Paris and New York. Mirroring three states of love in a heart-warming, amusing and stylish plot, ‘London Paris New York’ is said to bring razor sharp wit back into Bollywood’s romantic comedies. Ali Zafar is a multi-talented artist – musician, composer, songwriter, singer, actor, painter and model – who shot to fame with hit songs like ‘Channo’, ‘Rangeen’ and ‘Chal Dil Merey’.

Adding further impetus to ‘London Paris New York’, Ali has penned and performed the musical score for the film too, whose aim was to create a fresh sound, which experiments with various genres in line with the emotions showcased in the film. He used Pop influences in London, Electronic Sufi in Paris and Blues Rap in New York, blended together with a strong Bollywood undertone. The soundtrack also features its multi-talented stars Ali Zafar and Aditi Rao Hydari singing songs on the official soundtrack.  Dancer and actress Aditi Rao Hydari made her acting debut in 2007 in Sharada Ramanathan’s acclaimed film ‘Sringaram’. She is best known for her role in popular film ‘Yeh Saali Zindagi’, and also in Rockstar and Dilli 6.

'London Paris New York' This Year's International Love Story

Synopsis:

‘London Paris New York’ is a film that captures the angst of being in your twenties, the most dramatic period of your life – when you have to find a career; you have your first significant relationship and most importantly form your identity in this world. It is the story of ‘Lalitha’, a middle class South Indian girl from Chembur (an eastern suburb in Mumbai) who is on her way to New York to study politics on a full scholarship, and Nikhil, a Punjabi, rich kid from Bandra (a posh western suburb of Mumbai – read new money) who is going to study Film Making in London, fully funded by his father’s money.

They decide to hang-out together one evening in London and find that they are completely drawn to each other even as their future lies on separate continents. The film follows their personal journey and their love story as they meet in London, Paris and New York for a night each over eight years. The film is in three chapters and each chapter is shot in a manner that mirrors the mental state of ‘Nikhil’ and ‘Lalitha’.
The three bridges on the three rivers – Thames, Seine and Hudson – witness the three states of their love.

Music is integral to the film and takes form according to the moods. The three cities also give a dramatic canvas to create different exciting themes – Pop-Romance in London; Electronic-Sufi in Paris and Blues-Rap in New York, all blended in true Bollywood style.

The dialogues are natural and fresh and you get a sense that you are eavesdropping on these two characters. The film is romantic but not sentimental, and even though the pair discuss meaningful things, the film is always underpinned by humour.

‘London Paris New York’ is released by Twentieth Century Fox on 2nd March 2012.
