Kapoor & Sons

KAPOOR & SONS (Since 1921) Is A Delight To Watch

Kapoor & Sons – Since 1921

Kapoor & Sons – Since 1921

Kapoor & Sons directed by Shakun Batra, starring Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt, Fawad Khan, Rishi Kapoor, Rajat Kapoor and Ratna Pathak in this family circulated drama. The film unfolds family arguments after a reunion requested by the elderly and weak but jolly grandfather.

The film is packed with laughter, scenes that bring joy on screen but all happy times come with a dilemma. That is exactly what the movie portrays. No family is perfect and this one quite simply lacks perfection because each individual has a life, a struggle, a truth and a lie. The characters blend well together, turning this drama into an intense and watchable film. The pre-interval of the movie has so much thrown in, but that is well crafted and scripted by the talented writer and director. You get to witness laughter, seriousness, confrontations, reunion, effort but it never stops there. The second half picks up where the film left prior to the interval but this time less laughter and more seriousness and more drama to unfold. It comes to a stage where you do not want to seek for laughing dialogues and jokes as the family is attacking each other verbally for all their wrongs.

As for the direction, the director Shakun Batra helps create a tracking film that helps to lure you into the inner world of this family who are exploding despite trying to turn things around. The writer has scripted a brilliant script that nurtures the audience’s attention at all times. The film is paced well and despite slowing down at times, it does not distract. In fact it needs that slow effort at times as it only adds more intensity for the upcoming scenes.

Sidharth Malhotra tops well in his role, but to some extent he struggles with the scenes where he is fuming and angry, it is evident on screen but the rest of his scenes he manages to do well and leave a great impression playing the younger brother. Alia Bhatt a lively and bubbly character, she is great in her role and brings a bit of love chemistry to the film. Fawad Khan proves to be the best actor as he nails it with his fantastic performance, overshadowing the rest around him. He plays the older brother and does that really well proving to be more involved in family discussions, as well as trying to patch the family together despite facing difficulties from others around him. Rishi Kapoor is a bright spark who brings humor through his dialogues, the jokes are well timed and definitely one of the strongest pointers to bring a smile to your face. Rajat and Ratna Pathak playing husband and wife and the father and mother roles. They are the core of the family disputes and add that emotion on screen strongly causing the film to progress around their children in the movie.

Overall we enjoyed Kapoor & Sons movie, would recommend this film as a good family drama. It touches upon many emotions but never fails to make you smile. Credit needs to be given to the director for showcasing an average look to a film but still having a strong worthy film to enjoy.
