“IT’S SURREAL” – THE WILLIAMS SISTERS ON SEEING THEIR FATHER’S STORY ON THE BIG SCREEN
Venus and Serena Williams’ rise to greatness was predicted by their father and is almost like a Hollywood movie. But now with the film being released on 19th November 2021, that is about to be a reality. Starring Will Smith, Demi Singleton and Sanniya Sidney, the film follows the story of Richard Williams fighting to make his daughters the best they can be.
It was definitely an emotional moment for Serena Williams. She said, “Every time I watch (the trailer), my eyes are just watering. I think it was amazing to see that the family atmosphere on the set and how much they mean to Niall like really acted and I’m just really proud of what everyone has accomplished really.”
Venus Williams adds, ““Yeah, there’s no other word better to describe it as surreal, you know, just to see these incredible actresses, everyone behind it just putting it all together and about our dad’s journey because of myself and my sister, it really is like ‘wow, really? And to have Will play the role as my father and the way he just embodiedRichard Williams took the film to a whole new level.”
Demi Singleton, who plays Serena, shared what she’s going to be taking away from the film. “I think that one of my most favourite memories will be being on set everyday and this is my first film of this magnitude where everyone made me feel comfortable and all the lessons that I’ve been taught watching all the amazing actors. I’m just happy to be here.”
“I think what I’m going to take away from this is stepping into Venus’ shoes helped me grow as a woman. She was sohumble at that age and they had a great father. It is about family and made me reach out to people who I never talked to since I was little,” said Saniyya Sidney on what she was going to take away.
King Richard is an inspirational story and definitely one to look out for.
“King Richard” is releasing in UK cinemas from 19th November 2021.
