This is a very special project which encapsulates the journey of ALAAP Band, which is considered to be the “Godfathers of Modern Bhangra”. Formed in 1977 by Channi Singh, Alaap has pioneered the bhangra scene for over 35 years. With massive hits over 4 decades Alaap is still regarded as the hottest and most successful Bhangra Band Ever !!!
This project recreates some of Channi Singh’s greatest hits like “Bhabhiye Ni Bhabhiye”, “Teri Chunni De Sitare”, “Ve Vanjareya”, “Kade Na Billo”, “Jind Mahi” & “Ik Kuri Gulab De Phul Wargi”. A special highlight is the duet “Main Chham Chham Nachdi Firan” with Asha Bhosle.
Channi Singh
Founder, lead singer, composer, song writer and music director of world renowned Bhangra Band Alaap, Channi Singh is one of the biggest selling Bhangra artists in the world and is known as the “Godfather of Bhangra”. He is the Pioneer of modern Bhangra music all over the world, who brought Punjabi culture back to its youngsters when it was almost forgotten.
Channi Singh has recently been awarded One of the Most Prestigious Award & Honour by the QUEEN OF ENGLAND. He has become the first Bhangra artist to be appointed an OBE ( Officer of the Order of the British Empire) for his services to Bhangra music, charity and community work.
He has also featured in the World Guinness Book of Records for the most successful and longest running Bhangra band and for most Bhangra recordings produced, Channi Singh and his band Alaap are the first Bhangra artist/band to perform on BBC Television UK. Alaap has performed at The Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Football Stadium, Wembley Arena, Wembley Conference Centre, The Dome, and many other prestigious venues in the UK and around the world where no Asian Bands had previously performed.
Channi is also the first British Asian to compose and direct music for big banner Bollywood films such as Yalgaar, Shaktiman, Janasheen and a few more which are in the pipeline.
Channi and his band’s fan base continues to grow from strength to strength across the world where they encompass audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
Mona Singh
Ever since the release of her first album, Mona Singh has never looked back. Laying claim to the title ‘Princess of Bhangra’, Mona is one of the best Asian female vocalists to have emerged from the UK and enjoys one of the highest profiles of any Bhangra personality. Daughter of the legendary Channi Singh of famous Bhangra band ‘Alaap’, Mona has made her own mark and has shown the guys that a lady can also rock the Bhangra industry.
With 3 successful albums under her belt, each release has enhanced her reputation and status across the globe; ‘THE BEGINNING, ‘THE SECOND CHAPTER’ and ‘STRONGER’, all have enjoyed the number 1 position in the Asian music charts. Mona’s latest single “SAADI MARZI” – her very first duet and that too with famous Bollywood singer Labh Janjua, has also topped the Asian charts.
During Mona’s musical career, she has been awarded several prestigious awards from all corners of the world including ‘Best Female Debutante Singer’, ‘Best Female Vocalist’, ‘Young Achiever Award’, ‘Best Female Artist’, ‘Best Female Singer’ and ‘Musical Female Artist of the Year’.
