CIBELES MADRID FASHION WEEK 2008

This edition will usher in a new and decisive chapter in the history of CIBELES, the grand forum for the promotion of Spanish fashion organised by IFEMA.

Thus, between 15th and 19th September, Feria de Madrid will provide the venue for the forty-eighth edition of the event, which will boast both a renewed format and a new identity: CIBELES MADRID FASHION WEEK.

Visitors will enjoy an innovative fashion show that is wide-ranging, global, modern and dynamic, an event where the latest ideas of both young and established designers alike will be placed in the spotlight.

Welcome to the new project for the promotion of Spanish fashion.

Welcome to CIBELES MADRID FASHION WEEK,

CIBELES RECEIVES A NEW BOOST

  • Among the changes in the new approach we might mention the presentation of the brand CIBELES MADRID FASHION WEEK and the design of two catwalks, thus tripling the space occupied at previous editions.

  •  EL EGO, the forum for promoting talented young fashion designers, will be incorporated into the general fashion parade calendar and the entire EGO event will take place on Friday.
CIBELES Embarks on a New Stage in Its Development This grand forum for the promotion of Spanish fashion, organised by IFEMA, is on the verge of staging its forty-eighth edition and will now update the format it has presented at recent editions.

The need to boost the presence of Spanish design on an increasingly competitive international stage is one of the main reasons that has led to this change, not to mention the desire to present a more dynamic space, one that is in line with the latest trends.

The new CIBELES concept that is due to be presented between 15th and 19th September next is born with the objective of consolidating Madrid's role as a grand centre for Spanish design and Spanish fashion, a promotional vehicle for the "made in Spain" brand and a means of ensuring that Spain's fashion creations and designers manage to transcend the national market, effectively making an impact abroad through their export drive.

In this respect, a series of important changes have been introduced that will affect various aspects of the habitual event, including a new name: CIBELES MADRID FASHION WEEK. Furthermore, a new and innovative fashion parade programme has been designed which will present a solid and global image of Spanish fashion, in which respect the same venue in Hall 14.1 at Feria de Madrid will provide a setting for the ideas of both promising young designers and established names.

Thus, EL EGO, the forum for promoting promising young talents within the world of fashion design, which is also organised by IFEMA, will be incorporated into the new fashion show concept, both in terms of its venue and in terms of its inclusion on the calendar. El EGO will occupy the entire programme on the Friday, the last day on which the fashion parades take place.

EL EGO Showroom, where young designers are able to sell their collections to the general public, will also take place at Feria de Madrid, in an area known as CIBELESPACIO, located alongside the two catwalks.

Two Catwalks, Two Styles

The staging approach will entail an increase in the amount of occupied space, increasing the total area from 5,400 square metres to 14,000 square metres. There will also be two catwalks known as "Cibeles" and "Neptuno", featuring different technical characteristics in terms of design, lighting, tiered seating, etc. The fashion parades presented at the next edition will alternate between the two catwalks. This new approach will enable each designer to develop his or her creative ideas with regard to staging and introduce elements in each fashion parade that help to project a more creative and personal appeal.
Sala Cibeles will present a neutral and glamorous forum featuring a height of 30 centimetres and width of 2.40 metres, whilst Sala Neptuno will be more subdued and cutting-edge, being designed at floor level and featuring a width of six metres, with the possibility of a "U-shaped" design. Both will offer a capacity for 600 persons.

A Record Number of Fashion Parades

The September edition of CIBELES MADRID FASHION WEEK will feature the highest level of participation in the event's history.
Over a period of five days, some 52 designers will present their collections at 40 fashion parades, offering the most comprehensive overview of the world of fashion creation in Spain.

Devota y Lomba will open the programme at this edition, which, over its first four days, will present the ideas for Spring-Summer 2009 from 36 important designers at some 32 fashion parades, four of them double events.

Thursday will offer a number of outstanding new features, such as the  incorporation of the renowned designer, Nicolas Baudelet, for El Caballo, and the men's fashion duo, Jan iu Mes, under the heading of cutting-edge creation.   For his part, Carlos Díez will present a solo fashion parade, whilst Krizia Robustella, an habitual participant at the young designers' forum, EL EGO, will enter the general programme as part of a double fashion parade.

Friday 19th September will be devoted entirely to the young designers talking part at EL EGO. Thus, visitors will be able to contemplate a number of daring and risky ideas that are full of freshness and innovation from a number of promising young talents from the field of Spanish fashion design. Out of the 16 designers taking part at the eight double fashion parades that have been planned, nine will be participating for the first time, based on the rotation system that was set up at previous editions of EL EGO.

Furthermore, the new approach adopted at CIBELES MADRID FASHION WEEK will include the presentation of a new area, in the form of a grand avenue, known as CIBELESPACIO. This area will feature various brands that have decided to sign up to this grand forum for Spanish design. This area, which is located in the entrance hall and will present a permanent exhibition, will feature various different activities throughout the week, as well as providing a setting for the fashion and trend magazine stands.
Access to this area will be by special invitation, being separate from the invitation to attend the fashion parades.

                   A New Brand

Cibeles will unveil a new identity at this edition, a new brand name in which "Madrid" will play a leading role, accompanied by the words "Cibeles" and "Fashion Week", thus highlighting the event's international appeal.

The image, which was developed by Máximo Recio, conveys a sense of trend-setting fashion, whilst also offering a sophisticated, versatile and timeless appeal.  Furthermore, the new brand has managed to conceptually unite an entire series of social, cultural and commercial activities that go way beyond the idea of a mere fashion show, all encapsulated within the title:
