Asian Network

BBC Asian Network wins two more industry names!

PHS broke onto the UK urban music scene in 2001, originally with four members and helped create a new genre that fused Bhangra with Urban Street music: 'Desi Beats'. Now Rav and Dee of PHS will bring their unique sound to their new Asian Network show, entitled ‘Panjabi Hit Squad’ every Saturday night 5pm-8pm.
The Squad were part of the original launch line-up of BBC 1Xtra and in the years since have built a show that has carved a reputation for breaking Homegrown British-Asian talent and winning Awards to boot, taking the 'Best Specialist Radio Show' at the Asian Music Awards in 2004 and 2005.
In 2006 PHS produced with female mc 'Ms.Scandalous- Ladies first' which debuted at no.1 in the Asian music charts and new signing Alyssia who has been Tagged the Queen of BollyHood.

Club Asia Breakfast Show host latest to join BBC Asian Network

In addition, radio DJ Jas Rao, also known as ‘Jas the Man’ will join Asian Network’s new look DJ line up on Monday August 13th.

Jas has built his name in commercial radio over the past 4 years most recently hosting the Breakfast Show on Club Asia.  Jas’s musical signature is Bollywood music, remixed with dance.  Initially Jas will be deputising on Nihal’s Phone In show and will bring his wit and cheeky sense of humour to the Love Bollywood show on occasion too. On his love of Bollywood Jas says, “A lot of people find it odd because I’m Punjabi – and I love Bollywood, but I’m a bit of a romantic!”

Jas said of his move, “I am absolutely excited and positive about my move to the BBC Asian Network. This step will no doubt push my career in radio further and help to provide me with more skills, challenges and experiences in the future. The BBC Asian Network has a lot to offer me and I believe I can add a new edge, energy and dimension to the Network, I just can't wait to get stuck in!”

Jas's signing is the latest in a series of contemporary British, Asian musical appointments on Asian Network which are part of the stations ongoing repositioning as a young British Asian music centred station.  These include Panjabi Hit Squad (starting Saturday 4th August, 5-8pm), Bhangra remix DJ Sonny Ji, Asian Network Chart presenter Noreen and earlier this year Nihal, who hosts the Phone In show.
