For Women

Windswept Up-Dos

Looking to the hairstyles seen on the catwalk throughout 2013, there is one in particular which Asgar believes is timeless and will be carried through into the New Year. The ‘Windswept Up-Do’ is both casual and dishevelled, yet oozes subtle glamour and charm. For those who are a fan of Up-Dos, yet who still want to maintain feminine allure, Asgar recommends letting plenty of loose locks fall around the face, when pinning hair up.

Short Hair & Cropped ‘Pixie’ Cuts

A New Year brings new resolutions and new hairstyles. If you’re looking to refresh your hair and make a drastic change, Asgar suggests taking the plunge and giving yourself a cropped hair style. If you already have short hair, there are plenty of variations which can be tried. For example, a great way to make cropped cut more exciting, is to add layering. Thanks to new techniques of cutting and styling, the perfect amount of layers can be created to give you a short, choppy and layered cut. Asgar does however advise to always consider face shape and hair texture before making any dramatic change.

Braids

From Karen Walker to Kenneth Cole and Mara Hoffman to Nicole Miller, braids have been used for numerous New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014 runways. For those ladies who are thinking about Spring and Summer of next year, why not start experimenting with braids? Asgar’s favourites include the braid crown in which a thick braid is wrapped around the crown of the head and the fishtail braid, which Asgar recommends intertwining with neutral coloured ribbons, creating a fun yet sleek and subtle twist.

For Men

Keeping Hair Long

For those who are easily bored with one particular hairstyle, Asgar recommends keeping hair long for 2014. This will provide you with the means through which to create numerous styles, varying from one to another as you wish. Static buzz cuts are no longer on trend – long hair, which can be tousled, swept to the side or slicked back in a ‘Great Gatsby’ style is.

Accessorise

Asgar notes that a key projected 2014 trend seen on catwalks in Milan this year, is to accessorise using a bandana. This ‘rock-pirate’ twist has been brought back on trend thanks to the likes of designers including Vivienne Westwood, who equipped her male models with this on trend accessory. For those apprehensive to accessorise, the bandana is both masculine and casual and can work extremely well for men who are too lazy to style their hair.

Sharp Fringes and Varied Lengths

For men wishing to create an edgier look in the New Year, Asgar predicts a rise in the short, sharp fringe, which is often carried well and emphasised when the sides and crown of the head are cut short. Not only is this a refreshing, statement hairstyle but for those who wish to hide a receding hairline or simply keep their foreheads covered, this could be the perfect cut for the New Year.
