Village India & Experience Gujarat 2009

An international music festival is set to be held in the East Midlands for the first time in the summer.   The “Village India and Experience Gujarat 2009” Festival will be staged for 4 days in Leicester’s De Montfort Hall and Gardens from 10th to 13th September.

Over 40,000 visitors from across the UK are expected to attend the dual themed festival which is billed as a unique celebration of life and culture and will see a feast of highly acclaimed international artists performing alongside fantastic entertainment, food, crafts staged in huge traditional village setting.  
Supported by the Honourable Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the event is part of the Golden Jubilee of Celebrating 50 Years of Gujarat. 
The Festival is Two Events in One:
Village India is held in the De Montfort Hall Gardens.

Experience Gujarat is held in the main De Montfort auditorium.

 

Village India presents aspects of the whole of Indian culture. It has fantastic entertainment on two stages. There is also beautiful Indian cuisine, arts and crafts, roaming musicians and artisans in regional costume within an environment of a Traditional Village.
There is also A walk-way Photographic Exhibition and much more On the two Village India stages, you will get to experience everything from Contemporary Bhangra and Bollywood to World Music Fusion acts, Traditional music and Dance, Fashion Shows and DJs.
Think world music festival with a big Indian flavour and you will get a feel for it! 
 
Experience Gujarat will be held in the main auditorium and focuses on the very best music and dance from the region with the most famous artists and a highly varied programme of specially produced concerts.

On the first night we kick off this great event with one of the most exciting Garba events the country has seen. This includes a high quality Ras Garba competition judged by the region’s most famous musicians. Following the Garba competition there are Ten Fantastic Concerts throughout the weekend featuring the best artists the Gujarat has to offer.

They will be performing:- Gujarati Dayro, Comedy, Childrens’ Entertainment, Bhajans, Stutis, Slokhas, Folk Songs, Garba, Traditional Storytelling, Duha, Chand, Classic Film Songs, Wedding Songs & A Tribute To Avinash Vyas.
