The State Of The British Bhangra Scene

The State Of The British Bhangra Scene By Tony Pabla.
Ok I was asked for my thoughts on the state of the UK Bhangra music scene by Envy Music.
So let’s start where it became poplar. This was the early 80s. This is where the gig scene started, Bands like Alaap, DCS, Apna Sangeet, Pardesi, Azaad, Heera & Premi to name a few were some of the biggest bands out In the mid 80’s. AS Kang was the exception as he was the only solo singer out there.
They dominated the Bhangra scene. The mid 80’s then brought around acts like Golden Star, Safri Boys Shaktee.Back in these days the bands were all live & had a massive present on stage. The gig scene was slowly moving out of function halls & into clubs. For the Asian community this was a major step forward.
