Against a backdrop that displays intricate grandeur, authentic detailing and classic costumes, STAR One will showcase this well known love story with a promise to reaffirm the reality and essence of true love. ‘Shakuntala’ is the daughter of celestial angel ‘Menaka’ and sage ‘Vishwamitra’ but is abandoned by her parents at birth. The baby is found by sage ‘Kanva’ who gives her refuge in his shelter and raises her like his own daughter.

Shakuntala grows up to be a breathtaking beauty. In a chance encounter, ‘King Dushyanta’ comes across Shakuntala while travelling through the forest with his army and he falls in love with her at first sight.  Having to leave after some time due to unrest in his city, Dushyanta gives Shakuntala a royal ring as a sign of their love, promising her that he will return. However the curse of a powerful sage brings separation, turmoil, hardship and distress to this pure bond of love.
