REAL LIVES, REAL PEOPLE

To help with a new NHS campaign that will encourage more South Asian people to register as organ donors we are currently looking for organ transplant case studies and are very keen to hear about your personal experience. If you are interested in raising awareness about the urgent need for more donors then please contact us on 020 8902 5575.

People from the South Asian community living in the UK are three times more likely to need a kidney transplant. This is due to increased susceptibility to diabetes and high blood pressure as well as diet and lifestyle factors. Despite this high statistic, there is currently an acute shortage of Asian donors. Only 1.2% of those on the NHS Organ Donor Register are of South Asian origin.

We are working with NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) to launch the campaign in early 2010. The campaign will challenge the misconceptions surrounding organ donation and help people make informed choices about organ donation by providing accurate information and encourage people to register for organ donation.
