Leena Patel Launches NEW Dance Company LPLP
The Hybrid: Bollywood and Contemporary Classical dance break boundaries as Leena Patel launches her new dance company
Following a personal introduction of the company by award-winning contemporary British dancer Aakash Odedra; a successful launch of Leena Patel Legacy Productions took place at Navadisha 2016. The conference took place in Birmingham’s Midlands Arts Centre and Artistic Director Leena Patel spoke about the segregation between middle and working classes of dance and the preservation of Indian classical roots of dance whilst permitting exploration and evolution of movement beyond this. Patel (Dr Patel) also spoke about her career as a doctor and how she channels her medical experience through dance to tap into emotion and create relatable dance pieces.

Recently resigned from Bolly Flex where Leena worked as a co-director and choreographer with Naz Choudhury; Patel became a well-known and well-loved public figure. Having helped to build the brand up, she was fortunate enough to be able to land choreographic roles with multiple Bollywood celebrities such as Shahid Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Jacqueline Fernandez, Bipasha Basu and Malaika Arora-Khan for Bollywood Showstoppers. She worked with will.i.am for the BBC Music Awards and made appearances on Strictly Come Dancing and Stand up to Cancer.

Leena Patel Legacy Productions proposes to develop a movement toward the evolution of dance. The company encompasses two branches of styles; Bollywood dance and Commercial Classical dance. Bollywood dance by LPLP displays intricate choreography demonstrated through agile and abled bodies creating dynamic dance performances The work is inspired by Indian Classical dance roots, the commercial industry and western influence.Commercial Classical dance is a language that is being developed by LPLP. The style combines Indian Classical dance with Commercial dance to make it more accessible for a wider international audience. This experimental platform is signature to the company and is based on a contemporary structure.
