Yesterday at 6:22pm Tuesday 12th November, bestselling British artist Jessie J kick started the Christmas season by wowing shoppers with an explosive performance and admitting it has always been a dream to switch on the world famous Oxford Street lights.
Jessie J says “I always used to make my parents bring me to Oxford Street to see the Christmas lights so it’s an honour to actually be switching them on this year. I spend a lot of time shopping on Oxford Street and this year will be no different. The lights switch-on is a prestigious part of the festive season for Londoners and I’m proud to be a part of it. ”

Illuminating the world’s most iconic high street with a new £1.5 million light scheme, and lighting up the entire Selfridges building in spectacular style, Jessie J performed in front of thousands of excited shoppers and flicked the switch on the brand new Christmas lights display along the world’s most iconic high street.
The dynamic singer songwriter will perform some of her biggest hits in front of thousands of eager Oxford Street shoppers. Jessie J, whose debut album sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide recently released her follow up album ‘Alive’ and is just finishing her sell out 19 date UK arena tour.
Christmas cheer really did start here, as thousands of shoppers watched high octane performances by Jessie J, supported by X Factor winner James Arthur and pop sensation Conor Maynard, at the globally renowned Oxford Street Christmas lights switch-on hosted by the world’s best department store, Selfridges.
Remarkable circus theatrics made the event truly memorable, with eclectic performers Gifford’s Circus giving a real twist to the evening’s celebration. A breath-taking lights display lit up the iconic Selfridges building, celebrating its ‘Destination Christmas’ campaign.
The Oxford Street Christmas lights switch-on marks the official start of the festive season on in the West End, which historically takes over one billion pounds in sales during the Christmas shopping season.

The world famous Oxford Street Christmas lights have undergone a £1.5million transformation. The lights, inspired by falling snowflakes, will kick start the festive season in style, with shoppers enjoying the sight of three quarters of a million LED bulbs lighting up Oxford Street. The switch on event, with a specially built catwalk stage outside the front of Selfridges, was hosted by Capital FM presenters Lisa Snowdon and Dave Berry.
