Asian Nation

Asian Nation launches today – What’s it really like to British Asian today?

What Asian Network are doing:

From Monday 30th July the BBC Asian Network kicks off the most ambitious snapshot of British Asian life ever undertaken. Asian Nation on BBC Asian Network is a season of programming finding out what Asians in the UK are really concerned about sixty years since India won its independence and Pakistan became a nation in its own right.

On the Asian Network we will be airing a season of specially commissioned programmes over the 3 week period from 30th July- 17th August with their own themes of what is concerning British Asians today.  full details available at http://www.bbc.co.uk/indiapakistan/about.shtml#bbcasian   As well as asking listeners to send in their stories we'll be peppering the days output with 5 minute docu junkets of stories we've harvested from hundreds of British Asians over the past few months on how they feel.

National poll: ( launched today )

To mark the launch of this season we have commissioned a poll amongst British Asians on how they feel about being British- very timely considering what is happening currently.  Over a third of British born Asians don't feel British despite being permanent UK residents.
